Ever heard of chronic illness devastating a person or family? The resource dimension of health is how all the other dimensions of health can be best taken care of. This critical sphere deals with how we obtain and manage the resources necessary for our healthcare maintenance and promotion in our complex society. This resource dimension can be further sub-divided into financial, environmental and professional spheres.

The financial sphere relates to our relationship with money. This includes the knowledge and understanding of financial terms and concepts such as savings, assets, interest rates, investments, debt and many others. The way we spend our financial resources in a strategic and purposeful way towards our future is a key skill to continously nourish.

On a second note, the environment sphere has to do with our surroundings, including where we live, work, and engage in leisure activities. The important principle is making sure the areas and places we engage, support us as human-beings. This sub-division relates to an awareness and positive assertive action towards our immediate and broader environment.

Lastly; the occupational or professional sphere, involves making a determined choice of the activities that resonate with our goals, and sense of purpose in life. The exploration of occupational pursuits, as well as engaging in continuing-education activities maintains a rewarding state of being, that is not only highly valuable to ourselves, but to society as a whole.

This has been a brief introduction to the resource dimension of health. Stay tuned for a more in-depth exploration of the 6 different health dimensions on the next post.
