Want to be in the small percentage of those individuals who accomplish their new year health resolutions?

Then, consider your starting point the conversion of your resolutions for 2022 SMART health goals. Goals that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Trackable.

Let us start one step at a time. In this post we will consider the first step: specificity. Specific stands for well-defined, clear, and unambiguous goals. When you draft them, keep the following in mind:

  • What - what is it that I am going to accomplish

  • Why - the reasons for setting the goal; the motivation behind the goal

  • When - set up a specific deadline for when your goal is to be accomplished

  • How - what are the trade offs and key activities to accomplish this goal

  • Who - who is involved, who else has a stake in this goal

For example, instead of "I want to lose weight". Consider: "I want to lose 5 kg in order to reach my ideal weight, have more energy, and feel more attractive. I will accomplish this goal by March 10, 2022. I will accomplish this goal by eating healthier, exercising, and having a visit to my GP.
